A Heartfelt Prayer for Texas

As I sit here, my heart heavy with sorrow, I can’t help but think back to my own days as a little girl at sleepaway camp. The memories flood back—laughter echoing through the trees, the cool rush of the river on my skin, the sense of adventure that filled those long summer days. Camp was a magical escape, a place where I formed lifelong friendships and learned the strength of community. Now, as I watch the devastating news unfold about the flooding in Texas, those cherished memories are tinged with a deep ache. The same rivers that once brought joy have turned into a source of unimaginable heartbreak. The recent floods, with their catastrophic rise along the Guadalupe River, have claimed lives and left families shattered. I think of the children at Camp Mystic, some of whom may never return to their parents’ arms, and my chest tightens. I was once that camper, tucked safely in my cabin, unaware of the world’s unpredictability. To imagine those young children—some no older than I was—facing such terror in the night is almost too much to bear. The reports of missing loved ones, of homes swept away, and of communities struggling to hold on, bring tears to my eyes.I pray for the families who have lost someone in this tragedy. For the parents waiting anxiously for news, for the siblings searching for their missing sisters, and for the grandparents who’ve seen their legacies washed away—I lift you up in my thoughts. May you find strength in the outpouring of support from neighbors, first responders, and strangers who have come together in this dark time. May you feel a flicker of hope amid the grief, knowing that your loved ones are remembered and mourned by so many. This disaster has reminded me of the fragility of life and the resilience of the human spirit. I hold onto the belief that prayer can offer solace. To every family in Texas hurting today, I send my deepest condolences and a prayer for peace. May the waters recede, may the missing be found, and may healing begin, step by agonizing step, for all who are suffering.
